Renters: Renting a House in Florida

Before setting on on a Florida vacation, you should spend some time deciding where you will be able to stay once you arrive.  There are many attractions to visit in Florida, such as forests, theme parks and museums, but part of the enjoyment of a vacation is to have a place to rest, relax and sleep after a day of fun and sightseeing. You can of course, choose a hotel or resort.  You can also choose to stay in a house, apartment or condominium.  Before you make your decision, take the time to do a little research, and you may find something that will work better for you than the traditional choices.

Places to check for advertisements of rental houses in Florida include the internet, yellow pages, magazines and newspapers.  Often you will find photos so you have a better idea of what is available. You can start by deciding which places you want to visit and review housing closest to those places first.

You'll want to choose the location of the rental house so that it's near as many as possible of the attractions which you want to visit. Of course, rentals closer to the major attractions usually command higher prices.  The prices of a rental house will depend on the location of the property, the size of the house, how long you plan to stay, and the number and kind of amenities which are provided.  For example some houses have a swimming pool, patio, tennis court nearby, laundry facilities and some even provide catering service if you don't want to spend your time cooking

Be sure you spell out the extras which are to be provided along with the basic housing.  Sometimes landlords are willing to negotiate price. The landlord may agree to provide something extra is you request it, but they may not initiate the offer.

You should be sure that the house will provide all the extras that will be needed to make your Florida vacation special.  For example, if you want to heat up a microwave snack, you'll need a microwave.  If you want to watch television or simply sit and chat in the living room, make sure those things will be available in the property you rent.  The house size is actually less important than the cleanliness, as long as it meets the basic space requirements of your family.

Look for indications that your stay will be as private as you wish it to be.  If you're changing locations, sleep patterns may already be disrupted during the first part of your vacation, so you won't want to be awakened by excessive neighbor noise at 3 am.

In Florida as with other locations, federal law prevents housing discrimination due to sex, origin, handicap, color, religion ethnicity and race. Florida can be a wonderful place for a family vacation.  Enjoy your vacation to the fullest by planning and preparing ahead of time in order to have satisfactory lodging for you and your family.
